Jennie Immethun took the hard road onto an NWSL roster: a preseason trialist who played her way into a contract. She finished her college career at UCLA in 2025, after earlier stops at TCU and Loyola Marymount, earning All-American and All-Big Ten honors along the way and attending US Youth National Team camps as a younger player.

Portland brought her in as a non-roster invitee, signed her to a short-term contract for the 2026 season, and on June 9, 2026 extended that deal through July. She made her NWSL debut in the run of form around the Thorns' 2-0 home win over Bay FC, wearing number 40 as a depth option in a deep Portland midfield.

That was as far as it went in Portland. With her contract set to expire on July 31, the Thorns transferred her to Angel City FC on a free transfer on July 30, 2026, letting her join her new club immediately. The trialist route got her an NWSL roster spot and a debut, which is more than most preseason invitees ever get.
