Marie Muller: The German Import

Marie Muller came to Portland from SC Freiburg in 2024 and did something rare for a European import in her first NWSL season: she played almost every minute of every match. 27 starts in 32 appearances. 2,447 minutes. Her contract runs through 2026 with a club option for 2027. If she plays anywhere close to the 2,447 minutes she logged last year, the Thorns will pick up that option before the season is over. Muller is the kind of defender who doesn't demand attention but commands respect. She reads the game well, she's positionally disciplined, and she rarely gets beaten one-on-one. In a backline that includes Reyes, Obaze, and Hiatt, Muller is the glue.
